Mobility
Pilates is an excellent method for improving joint mobility and range of motion.
In a mobility class, we combine Pilates movements, focusing primarily on the mobility of the lower back, spine, and hip joints. We also dedicate attention to the shoulder girdle, knees, and ankles.
Beyond the core Pilates movements, we explore various variations.
We increase the flexibility of the spine by decompressing the vertebrae, alleviating the effects of static positions throughout the day. Even if we’ve been active, the back always benefits from the bliss of stretching.
Enhanced joint mobility is essential for performing daily activities and maintaining overall body health.
Pilates – balance for the body, control of the mind, and nourishment for the soul.
Balance
Aligning the body, evenly distributing its weight, and feeling grounded are some of the benefits when working on balance.
When people think about balance, the first association might be standing on one leg with eyes closed.
We have a sense called proprioception, which is the awareness of where our body is in space. It enables us to know where our leg is without needing to look at it. This subconscious awareness stems from joints and soft tissues constantly sending signals to the spinal cord and brain about our position and movement.
Good balance means controlling the body’s position, whether we are moving or standing still. In a Pilates class, the deep stabilizing muscles of the body, which form our “core,” assist in maintaining balance. With an active core, the body feels more stable in space.
Training for balance deepens movements and enhances our sense of time, space, and the present moment.
Coordination
In a Pilates class, when working on coordination, we continuously connect movement with breath. For example, on the mat, we stabilize the spine while combining arm and leg movements in various variations.
When standing, we develop proprioception—our sense of spatial orientation—while also aligning the body.
Overall, this approach fosters balance, strength, and flexibility throughout the body while also promoting mental balance.
Coordination bridges the mind and body, enhancing the flow of energy and refining precision.
